Leyla & Aras: a waterfront wedding on the Bosphorus and the happiest guest on the dance floor

One pattern, one bridal party and their dog Fıstık. Leyla told us about their wedding.

The last Saturday of September, the garden of a white waterfront mansion on the Bosphorus. Leyla and Aras sat down with us three times before the ceremony; each time something new came to the table: a photo from their first holiday, Aras’s old camera, and Fıstık’s collar.

Everything met in one pattern: polaroids, the camera, peonies, burgundy ribbons, the house key and Fıstık in the middle. Two names and the wedding date on a ribbon.

The bridal party wore this pattern, at the neck, in the hair, on the wrist, each in her own way. Below, we follow the day in Leyla’s own words.

How did you choose the pattern?

1/6We didn’t really choose it, we collected it. The camera is Aras’s, the ribbons are from my mother’s hope chest. The polaroid is from our first holiday.
2/6With my bridesmaid Defne. She tied the scarf at the neck of her satin dress and didn’t take it off all night.

What did the party wear?

3/6We set no rules. We just said “same pattern, your own style.” Some wore it at the neck, some on the wrist, some in their hair.
4/6As the cake was cut, seeing the same pattern everywhere between the tables made us feel we were all in the same story.
5/6And the star of the night. Fıstık was on the dance floor too, wearing his own scarf.

As the sun set

6/6The two of us under the tree after the ceremony. The scarf on the bouquet stems, right beside us.
